How many Reddy people and pages are on English Wikipedia?
A 2026 census found 1,053 title-query targets and 648 biographies; 754 current titles contain Reddy or Reddi, including 621 people.

- Broad full-text search | 24,298 hits | A search-index total containing incidental mentions, not a count of people.
- Title-query targets | 1,053 unique pages | Deduplicated targets returned by intitle:Reddy and intitle:Reddi, including redirect matches.
- Human biographies in title-query targets | 648 pages | Linked Wikidata entities with instance of human.
- Strict literal-title subset | 754 pages and 621 people | Current page titles that themselves contain the standalone word Reddy or Reddi.
- Non-person title-query targets | 405 pages | Places, creative works, organizations, history, lists and disambiguation pages.
- Retrieval point | 11 September 2026, 11:18 UTC | A reproducible snapshot that changes as Wikipedia and Wikidata change.

The short answer: 1,053 title-query target pages, including 648 biographies
At 11:18 UTC on 11 September 2026, the English-Wikipedia title queries intitle:Reddy and intitle:Reddi returned 1,053 unique target pages after deduplication. Wikidata identified 648 of those targets as human biographies. In the stricter literal-current-title subset, 754 page titles themselves contained the standalone word Reddy or Reddi, and 621 of those pages were biographies. The distinction matters because MediaWiki title search also returns target pages through matching redirects.
A broader English-Wikipedia full-text search for Reddy reported 24,298 hits at the same retrieval time. That number measures appearances in the search index, not people. A full-text result may be an incidental reference in an article about a different person, place, institution, work, list or event. It is therefore the broadest answer to how many articles are related by indexed text, but it cannot be reported as a Reddy people count.
This is an independent Reddy News data report based on public Wikipedia and Wikidata interfaces and a local, reproducible dataset. It is not a Wikimedia tally, and it does not infer anyone’s identity, caste, ancestry or personal association from a page title. The census describes pages and structured classifications, while keeping the people represented in those pages distinct from a search term.
Why the census begins with two title searches
The starting point was deliberately narrower than a general search. The English Wikipedia Action API was queried in the main article namespace for intitle:Reddy and intitle:Reddi, reflecting two spellings documented on Wikipedia’s Reddy page. The API reported 1,038 hits for intitle:Reddy and 37 for intitle:Reddi. These reported totals add to 1,075, but reported search totals are not automatically a unique page count because the result sets can overlap.
The returned page targets were downloaded through the API continuation batches, limited to main-namespace articles, then deduplicated. This produced 1,053 unique targets. Because MediaWiki includes redirects in search, 299 targets do not currently have Reddy or Reddi in the target title itself. The stricter current-title subset contains 754 pages. Publishing both figures is more useful than hiding the search behavior behind one number.
MediaWiki describes its list=search module as full-text search and documents srsearch, srnamespace, result limits and continuation. Its documentation also warns that query interpretation can depend on the search backend. For that reason, this report separates the backend’s broad total from the downloaded title corpus instead of treating either one as a permanent or exhaustive answer.
How 648 biographies were separated from 405 other pages
Each of the 1,053 title-query targets was connected to its Wikidata item where available. The census examined the item’s instance-of statement, property P31. Pages whose linked item included human, Q5, were counted as biographies. That rule produced 648 biography targets and 405 non-person targets. Within the stricter literal-current-title subset, 621 pages were biographies. These are structured page classifications, not claims about caste, ancestry or personal identity.
The rule is transparent but modest. Wikidata’s Action API is designed for retrieving entity data in small groups, and the data-access documentation explains that its data are editable and that interfaces are not guaranteed to be stable. A missing or incomplete item, an incorrect statement, a page without a linked item, or a later edit can affect classification. The result therefore measures the linked records at a stated time, not an unchanging truth about every page subject.
For the 648 human biographies, field labels were assigned from Wikidata occupations, descriptions and the local review rules. Those labels help readers understand the corpus, but they do not reduce a person to one occupation and should not be read as measures of achievement, prominence, population size or community representation.
The biography breakdown is led by politics
Politics accounted for 371 of the 648 human biographies in the title-query corpus. Cinema and media followed with 74. The remaining biography fields were other or unclassified, 38; arts and literature, 33; science, medicine and education, 30; cricket, 29; other sports, 25; law, administration and military, 25; and business, 23. These nine fields sum to the full biography total.
The pattern says something specific and limited: among titles captured by these two spelling queries and linked to Wikidata human items, political subjects were the largest assigned field. It does not establish that people with a Reddy or Reddi page title share a background, that all people in a field appear in the corpus, or that the distribution reflects any group beyond the pages retrieved.
The cricket subtotal is 29 biographies, while other sports contributes 25. Keeping those groups separate makes the result easier to inspect and avoids presenting a single broad sports figure that hides the subjects represented in the dataset. The other or unclassified group of 38 is equally important: a visible remainder is more honest than forcing every biography into a field where the available description or occupation data do not support a confident label.
The 405 non-person pages show why title matches are not all biographies
Places and constituencies make up 271 of the 405 non-person pages, by far the largest topic group. Other topics account for 51 pages, creative works for 44, disambiguation for 18, organizations for 14, community and history for 5, and lists for 3. Together, these categories account for every non-person page in the title-query corpus.
This composition is the strongest practical reason not to mistake a title search for a people census. A title can refer to a geographic or electoral subject, a film or other creative work, an organization, a navigation page or a list. Even a human biography with a matching title is a page about an individual, not evidence that the individual should be placed into a community category by an outside publisher.
The 18 disambiguation pages deserve particular care. Their purpose is to help readers choose among subjects with similar names or terms; they are not records of 18 people. Likewise, the three list pages organize links rather than describe a single person or place. Treating all matched titles alike would flatten these very different editorial objects into a misleading headline number.
What this snapshot can—and cannot—tell us
The method is reproducible: retrieve English Wikipedia main-namespace results for intitle:Reddy and intitle:Reddi; retain the broad Reddy full-text total as a separate search measure; deduplicate the title-query target pages; obtain linked Wikidata entities; identify human biographies through P31 human (Q5); and group biographies and non-person pages using the documented local dataset. The published local files include the summary, page list, people list and census script, so the arithmetic and classifications can be checked rather than taken on trust.
The date and time matter. Wikipedia pages, search indexes, redirects and Wikidata statements change continuously, so 24,298 broad hits, 1,038 Reddy title hits, 37 Reddi title hits, 1,053 title-query target pages, 648 biographies and 405 non-person pages are a point-in-time census, not a permanent inventory. Differences in later searches may reflect edits, indexing, title changes, data corrections or the search service itself rather than an error in this reported snapshot.
There are additional boundaries. The census covers English Wikipedia’s main article namespace only, not every language edition, talk page, category, file, template or external web page. It is based on two spellings and does not claim to capture every transliteration, related name or relevant biography. Above all, search relevance and a title string are not proof of identity. The most responsible reading is therefore simple: this is a well-defined count of pages and linked structured records, not a count of a people.

Article questions, answered
Short answers to common reader questions based on the reporting above.
How many Reddy people are on English Wikipedia?
The broad title-query census found 648 human biography targets. A stricter subset found 621 human biographies whose current English-Wikipedia titles literally contain the standalone word Reddy or Reddi. Both figures are dated to 11 September 2026 and neither proves how any person identifies.
Why is the full-text result of 24,298 not the people count?
MediaWiki full-text search finds pages where Reddy appears in indexed text. Those hits can include incidental mentions and pages about places, works, organizations, lists, disambiguation or unrelated subjects. A search-result total cannot establish that each result is one person.
Why do 1,038 and 37 title hits become 1,053 pages?
The two title-query result sets overlap, and MediaWiki also includes redirect matches. After deduplicating the returned targets, the census contained 1,053 unique pages. Of those, 754 current target titles literally contained Reddy or Reddi; the other 299 were reached through redirect or search-target behavior.
How did the census decide whether a page was a biography?
For each title-query target page, the census used its linked Wikidata entity and counted it as a biography when its instance of statement, P31, included human, Q5. This is a reproducible structured-data rule, but it can change if the linked data change or are corrected.
Can I reproduce or update this count?
Yes. The report’s local dataset identifies the census script, summary JSON, page list and people list. Re-run the same two main-namespace title queries, follow API continuation, deduplicate the pages and apply the stated Wikidata human rule. Record a fresh retrieval time, because the new result will be a later snapshot.
