Apple introduced Apple iPhone Duo on 9 September 2026 as the company’s first foldable iPhone. The device opens to a 7.6-inch inner display and closes around a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple is placing it above the conventional iPhone line as a new form factor built for a larger working area, two-app multitasking, hands-free viewing and camera features that use both screens.

For India, the headline facts are clear. The iPhone Duo price starts at ₹2,99,900, preorders begin on 16 October, and retail availability begins on 23 October. Buyers can choose 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB of storage in star white or night sky. Apple has not published every India storage-tier price in its Newsroom announcement, so only the confirmed starting price is stated here.

This is an announcement report, not a hands-on review. Reddy News has not tested the hinge, display crease, battery, cameras or heat management on a retail iPhone Duo. Specifications and performance comparisons in this article are attributed to Apple. Early physical observations are identified separately when they come from reporters who handled the device at the launch event.

iPhone Duo price in India and release date

Apple says the iPhone Duo starts at ₹2,99,900 in India with 256GB of storage. The same product family also includes 512GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities. In the United States, Apple and independent launch reports place the starting price at $1,999. Taxes, trade-in values, financing offers and accessory costs vary by market, so the US price should not be converted into an assumed India retail figure.

Indian customers are scheduled to be able to preorder the phone from Friday, 16 October 2026. Availability begins Friday, 23 October, the same initial retail date Apple lists for more than 70 countries and regions. A second group of 28 markets follows on 30 October. The gap between the September announcement and the October release means retail reviews and long-term durability evidence are not yet available at publication time.

Apple lists an iPhone Duo Case at ₹8,900 and an iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand at ₹14,900 in India. Both are scheduled for ordering from 16 October. Those accessories are optional, and Apple’s fast wired-charging figure requires a 60W-capable or higher USB-C power adapter, sold separately, paired with a USB-C charging cable. The phone itself is offered only in star white and night sky.

Apple’s official starting prices show a wide gap between markets for the same 256GB iPhone Duo. India is ₹2,99,900; the United States is $1,999; the United Kingdom is £1,999; the UAE price that applies in Dubai is AED 8,499; Canada is CAD 2,999; Australia is A$3,499; Singapore is S$3,099; and Japan is ¥364,800. Apple does not publish a separate Dubai price—the UAE list price is the relevant official figure for Dubai.

For a consistent snapshot, Reddy News converted those official prices with Yahoo Finance currency-market quotes recorded between approximately 9:16 am and 9:44 am IST on 14 September 2026. The rates used were ₹95.54 per US dollar, ₹129.0253 per British pound, ₹25.969 per UAE dirham, ₹68.863 per Canadian dollar, ₹68.322 per Australian dollar, ₹75.308 per Singapore dollar and ₹0.6202 per Japanese yen. Exchange rates move continuously, so every converted figure below is approximate rather than a permanent price.

United States: $1,999 converts to about ₹1,90,984. That is approximately ₹1,08,916 below Apple’s India list price, meaning the India price is about 57.0 percent higher than the straight currency conversion. This is not a final US checkout comparison because local sales taxes and payment costs can change what a buyer actually pays.

United Kingdom: £1,999 converts to about ₹2,57,922. The simple converted gap against India is approximately ₹41,978, or 16.3 percent. The identical “1,999” number in pounds and dollars is not equivalent in value; currency denomination matters more than the matching digits.

UAE and Dubai: AED 8,499 converts to about ₹2,20,711. On that snapshot, the UAE list price was approximately ₹79,189 below India, with India about 35.9 percent higher than the converted UAE figure. A buyer in Dubai should use the UAE price, then consider card conversion, travel, customs and warranty—not compare ₹2,99,900 with AED 8,499 as if they were directly equivalent.

Canada: CAD 2,999 converts to approximately ₹2,06,520, leaving a straight-conversion difference of about ₹93,380. Australia: A$3,499 converts to about ₹2,39,059, or roughly ₹60,841 below India; Apple explicitly labels the Australian price as including GST. Singapore: S$3,099 converts to approximately ₹2,33,379, around ₹66,521 below India. Japan: ¥364,800 converts to about ₹2,26,249, around ₹73,651 below India; Apple explicitly labels the Japanese price as tax-inclusive.

These calculations compare only Apple’s starting list price for the same 256GB capacity. They do not include every market’s tax presentation, carrier subsidy, trade-in, financing, bank fee, travel cost, customs treatment or exchange-rate spread. Gulf News reached the same broad order across the five markets it compared—US lowest, followed by UAE, Saudi Arabia, UK and India—but also stated that its comparison excluded other costs and incentives.

Why is the iPhone Duo price higher in India?

There is no single public Apple document that assigns an exact rupee amount to every cause of the India price gap. It would therefore be misleading to say that one tax, one duty or one business decision explains the entire difference. The observable fact is the final official price in each market; the reasons below are factors that commonly affect regional technology pricing, not a disclosed line-by-line Apple calculation.

The first factor is tax presentation. Apple’s Australian announcement explicitly says its A$3,499 recommended retail price includes GST, and Apple Japan states that ¥364,800 includes tax. The United States has no single nationwide retail sales-tax rate, so a $1,999 headline price is not necessarily the final amount at checkout in every state or city. Comparisons that convert the US headline price directly to rupees can therefore overstate the apparent saving.

The second factor is currency risk. A company does not necessarily reset a major product’s local price every time the daily foreign-exchange rate moves. Regional prices can reflect earlier exchange assumptions, hedging, a buffer for volatility and the need to keep price tiers stable through a sales cycle. That is why the time-stamped conversion in this article is a useful comparison snapshot but not evidence of Apple’s internal exchange rate.

The third group includes import treatment, local compliance, logistics, distribution, retail operations, support obligations and market-specific commercial decisions. Their relative importance can differ by product and country. Without Apple’s internal cost and pricing data, the public list-price gap cannot be divided reliably among those items, and it should not be treated as a direct estimate of tax alone or of Apple’s profit margin in India.

Storage, included services and payment offers can also distort a quick comparison. This article uses the 256GB starting model in every market. Trade-in credits, monthly plans, carrier contracts and promotional incentives are separate arrangements. A discounted financed price or monthly instalment should not be compared with India’s full cash list price without adding the total payable amount and all eligibility conditions.

Is buying iPhone Duo in Dubai or another country really cheaper?

A lower converted list price can represent a real sticker-price gap, but it is not automatically the final landed cost for an Indian resident. The calculation changes when a buyer adds foreign-card markup, exchange spread, local checkout tax where applicable, travel, optional insurance, customs obligations and the value of service access after returning home. A trip made only to purchase the phone can easily absorb part of the apparent saving.

Apple’s official limited-warranty terms say it may restrict iPhone warranty service to the country where Apple or an authorised distributor originally sold the device. Proof of purchase, model-specific parts and local service options can matter.

The official India price remains the cleanest comparison for a locally invoiced device with local consumer and service arrangements.

Opened flat, iPhone Duo measures 164.6 mm wide, 117.8 mm high and 5.2 mm deep. Closed, it measures 84.1 mm wide, 117.8 mm high and 11.3 mm deep. The weight remains 254 grams in either position. Those measurements make the open body very thin, while the folded thickness is the more relevant figure for a pocket or small bag.

The inner Super Retina XDR OLED panel is 7.6 inches with a resolution of 1,878 by 2,670 pixels at 430 pixels per inch. The outer 5.4-inch OLED panel is 1,398 by 2,034 pixels at 460 pixels per inch. Both displays support ProMotion adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, Always-On display behavior, HDR, True Tone and peak outdoor brightness of 3,000 nits. Apple notes that the actual viewable area is smaller than the diagonal measurement because of rounded corners.

Core hardware includes the A20 Pro chip, a 48MP main camera, a 48MP ultra-wide camera, a 12MP outer front camera and an under-display inner FaceTime camera. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread, 5G through Apple’s C2 modem, NFC and a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. The USB-C port supports USB 3 data transfer at up to 10 gigabits per second and DisplayPort output.

How the foldable design and two displays work

The central hardware change is the book-style fold. Closed, the outer screen handles normal phone tasks in a compact body. Opened, the inner screen creates a wider canvas for reading, video, games and two-app Split View. Apple uses the same aspect-ratio family across the displays so an app can move between them without a sudden change in basic layout proportions.

Apple describes a precision hinge, grade 5 titanium construction and a 3D-printed titanium hinge cover. Apple says the inner display uses a scratch-resistant coating and nano-textured cover layer, with high-strength glass, custom adhesives and a titanium plate in its multilayer construction. Ceramic Shield protects the outer front and back. The company rates the phone IP68 for water and dust resistance under controlled laboratory conditions, up to a stated maximum depth of six metres for 30 minutes.

IP68 does not make the device waterproof. Apple’s own footnote says resistance can decrease with normal wear and liquid damage is not covered under warranty. A folding screen also introduces moving parts and a flexible inner surface that conventional slab phones do not have. Apple’s construction details explain the engineering approach, but they cannot replace months of independent testing for hinge wear, dust exposure, accidental drops and repairability.

A20 Pro performance, thermal system and connectivity

iPhone Duo uses the A20 Pro, with a six-core central processing unit, seven-core graphics processor, Dual 16-core Neural Engine and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Apple says the central processor is up to 20 percent faster than A19 Pro and that memory bandwidth is up to 50 percent higher. Those are company comparisons, not independent benchmark results for a shipping iPhone Duo.

A foldable body has less simple internal space than a conventional phone, so heat control matters. Apple has paired the chip with a custom vapor chamber and a thermal system designed for sustained workloads. The specification is relevant for games, video editing and on-device artificial-intelligence tasks, but reviewers will still need to test temperature, throttling and battery drain across both screen modes.

The phone also advances Apple’s in-house radio hardware. Its C2 cellular modem supports 5G, while the N1 networking chip provides Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. Apple says the eSIM-only layout frees internal room for the dual-battery design. In India, Apple names Airtel, Jio and Vi among supported carriers, but network bands, eSIM activation and plan features remain carrier- and location-dependent.

iPhone Duo camera specifications and fold-aware features

The rear 48MP Dual Fusion system combines a 26 mm-equivalent main camera with an f/1.6 aperture and a 13 mm-equivalent ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and 120-degree field of view. The main sensor also provides a 12MP optical-quality 2x mode. There is no separate long telephoto lens in Apple’s specification; the listed rear system offers a 4x optical-quality zoom range and up to 10x digital zoom.

Video recording reaches 4K Dolby Vision at up to 120 frames per second on the main camera. Apple also lists 4K Cinematic mode up to 60 frames per second, 4K slow motion up to 120 frames per second, macro video, Dual Capture and 4K Dolby Vision time-lapse. The outer 12MP Center Stage camera records 4K Dolby Vision up to 60 frames per second, while the inner under-display FaceTime camera reaches 1080p at 30 or 60 frames per second.

The folding body creates camera uses that do not depend on a new sensor. Duo Preview places a live preview on the outer display for the person being photographed. Smart Take uses on-device analysis to capture when people are ready. Kid Cue shows animations on the outer display to draw a child’s gaze toward the camera, and Duo FaceTime can put nearby participants on the second screen. These features are announced software behaviors; their speed and consistency need testing outside a controlled demonstration.

Battery life and charging claims explained

Apple rates iPhone Duo for up to 24 hours of typical use. It separately lists up to 44 hours of video playback when the outer display is used and up to 31 hours on the inner display. Streamed video figures are lower at up to 37 hours outside and 26 hours inside. The difference is a useful reminder that the larger folding panel consumes more power under similar playback conditions.

The device contains two built-in rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. Apple says a drained iPhone Duo can reach 50 percent charge in around 20 minutes with a 60W-capable or higher USB-C power adapter and suitable cable. MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging reach up to 25W, with a stated 50 percent charge in around 30 minutes when paired with a 35W or higher adapter and a compatible MagSafe charger.

Every figure has conditions. Apple tested preproduction hardware and software, and its typical-use result assumes a representative mix of tasks with equal use of the inner and outer displays. Signal strength, brightness, 5G use, games, camera recording, background activity and the chosen screen can change the result. The company’s numbers establish its test target; they do not guarantee the same runtime for every owner.

iOS 27.1, multitasking, Apple Pencil and AI limits

iPhone Duo is scheduled to ship with iOS 27.1. Apple says iOS 27 adapts as iPhone Duo folds, reorients and switches to the appropriate display, with redesigned controls and layouts for the dual-display form factor. Split View can run two apps side by side, and supported content can be moved between apps. Apple says support for Apple Pencil with USB-C is coming later in 2026, giving the inner display a future note-taking and drawing role that ordinary iPhones have not offered.

The software is the part that will decide whether the larger screen feels useful after the novelty fades. A wide panel matters when apps expose more information, support two-column layouts or work well beside another app. It matters less when an app simply stretches a phone interface. Apple controls its own applications and system behavior, but third-party developers determine how quickly their apps adapt to the new canvas.

Apple Intelligence and Siri AI are prominent in Apple’s launch material, yet availability is qualified. Supported languages, regions, device settings and local rules can affect which features appear. Siri AI begins as a beta in English, and Apple says some server-backed intelligence features may face daily usage limits. Buyers should check the current India feature-availability page rather than treating every keynote demonstration as an unconditional launch-day feature.

eSIM-only design, Touch ID and everyday compatibility

iPhone Duo does not accept a physical SIM card. It can keep eight or more eSIM profiles and run two active eSIMs, according to Apple’s technical specifications. That saves internal space, but it also makes carrier support a purchase requirement. A user moving from a physical SIM, switching networks often or travelling through markets with limited eSIM support should check the activation path before the preorder window.

Authentication also changes from the Face ID pattern familiar on recent premium iPhones. Apple places Touch ID in the side button. What independent reporting adds to Apple’s claims

Reuters reported the $1,999 US starting price, 7.6-inch opened display, A20 Pro chip, Apple’s stated 24-hour mixed-use battery figure and 23 October availability. Its launch report also noted that Apple is entering a category in which Samsung, Huawei and other manufacturers have sold folding phones for years. The iPhone Duo is new for Apple, not the first foldable smartphone.

CNN reporters who handled the device at Apple’s event said the matte inner screen reduced glare, the crease was hard to notice in their brief session, and apps moved between screens without visible interruption. That is useful first-look evidence, but it is still an event-floor observation. It does not establish how the screen, hinge or software will behave after weeks of daily use.

CNBC, citing IDC, reported that foldables accounted for about 2.2 percent of smartphone unit shipments so far in 2026. That context explains why Apple’s entry is important without assuming it will immediately remake the broader phone market. The price and October shipping date will keep the first wave focused on premium buyers and early adopters, while longer-term demand remains an open question.

What remains unverified before the phone reaches buyers

The specification sheet answers what components Apple has announced. It does not answer how the flexible panel resists scratches, how visible the crease becomes in varied light, how the hinge ages, or whether the 254-gram body is comfortable for long reading sessions. Repair pricing, parts availability and the practical cost of accidental inner-screen damage will also matter for a device starting at ₹2,99,900.

Performance needs the same separation between claim and evidence. Independent tests can check whether the A20 Pro maintains speed under load, how the vapor chamber handles games, and how battery life changes when the inner display is used heavily. Camera tests can compare the optical-quality 2x crop with a dedicated telephoto lens and assess the under-display camera in difficult lighting.

Software may be the largest variable. Split View and flexible positions are central to the product’s purpose, but value depends on app support and stable transitions across screen states. The clearest pre-order checklist is therefore factual: confirm the final India configuration price, verify eSIM support, review the current language and AI availability, understand that chargers and cases cost extra, and wait for independent retail-device testing if long-term durability is a deciding factor.
